Why do cats knead
This is an incredibly adorable behaviour. It's thought to be a habit which is carried over from kitten-hood when they would kneed their mother's teat to help with milk flow. If you see your cat kneading it may signal that they feel comfortable in their environment. Another explanation may come from before cats were domesticated when they used to make a soft sleeping surface by kneading the ground.
